Currently, Cheska is a Research Assistant under Dr. Darragh Duffy and Prof. James Di-Santo for the Healthy Human Global Project - Hong Kong.
What is your background?
I acquired my bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at the Beijing Forestry University) and Forest Science at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in a five-year joint program. I am very thankful for this unique opportunity to study in Canada where I could get to know people from different cultures.
Afterwards, I came to Hong Kong where I completed my master’s degree in Biotechnology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This fruitful journey has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the development and applications of various biotechnologies nowadays.
What is your research interest?
I enjoy doing biology research as every single step is knowledge-based and requires logical thinking. Researchers face new problems and challenges every day as they conduct more advanced experiments. Every time we encounter a problem, we reference on other relevant papers and search for key information to look for a possible solution.
Like in a video game, I find the challenging process of trying to ‘level up’ in fighting against stronger ‘monsters’ each time, and finally completing all the missions so rewarding and satisfying.
Working at C2i
C2i is like a big family. All members are very friendly and special in their own ways. We share ideas, knowledge, interesting stories, and snacks ^o^. In our program, we are aiming at defining the boundaries of a healthy immune system to facilitate the establishment of personalised and precision medical care.
I am so grateful and honoured to be part of this meaningful and impactful project.
